Mon Choisy is, in our opinion, the best public beach on the north coast of Mauritius.

The wide beach is surrounded by a dense pine forest and is also popular for walking or jogging as the sand is nice and hard.

The longest public beach in Mauritius

Mon Choisy is the longest public beach in Mauritius at almost 3 km long. While some sources say that the longest beach is in the resort of Flic en Flac and is 8 km long, it is in fact a number of contiguous beaches.

The fine white sand only gently slopes down into the sea, making the beach suitable for families with small children. In addition, the water in the wide bay is very calm without big waves.

Between the beach and the road is a wide belt of trees, which hides various stalls with snacks and local delicacies.

There are also free public toilets in the middle of the beach.

However, there are no sun lounger rentals, so bring your own towels or umbrellas.

How to get there

Mon Choisy is just off the main road connecting Trou aux Biches and Grand Baie, and there are large free car parks at several points on the beach.

Even in high season, it's no problem to find a free parking space.

The beach can also be easily reached by bus lines 20C, 82, 95, 228 from Trou aux Biches and Grande Baie. Collectively from these two towns they run at an interval of 5-10 minutes.

Lines 20C and 82 continue on to the capital Port Louis.

Detailed information on tickets and timetables can be found in the Transport chapter.
