Grand Gaube is a peaceful fishing town that is gradually turning into a resort with several luxury hotels, but also several public beaches in quiet, photogenic bays.

Within the northern coast, Grand Gaube is one of the most peaceful resorts with the most authentic local atmosphere.

The town has several local bistros, grocery stores and beach equipment shops. The main landmark is the local Catholic Church of Saint Michel.

The best beaches and coves

These are, in our opinion, the best beaches in Grande Gaube:

  • Grande Gaube Public Beach (see map) - a public beach right in the centre of the town with a nice park and a few food stalls.
  • Grande Gaube Public Beach II (see map) - a more secluded and much quieter beach in the eastern part of the town near St Michel Church with several restaurants and water sports, especially kitesurfing.
  • Butte À L'herbe (see map) - a small island reached by a concrete road, about 2.5 km from the centre, with beautiful tree-shaded coves and a relaxed atmosphere. The islet is popular among locals for picnicking.

Holidays with travel agency - best hotels

Grand Gaube has several hotels that are mainly used by tour operators and travel agencies from Europe.

Holidays in Grand Gaube are synonymous with peace and quiet by the calm sea, but with an ample supply of boat trips directly from the town without having to take a bus or taxi to other ports.

We recommend you take a look at the tours to these hotels:

Hotels for individual travellers

The Grand Gaube is also a good choice if you are travelling around Mauritius on your own.

Here you will find several budget apartments with prices starting from 80 usd per night.

We would recommend, for example Grand Gaube Golf Sea View Apartment right by the beach.

If you are looking for good quality but relatively cheap hotels, we recommend Mythic Suites & Villas by MJ Holidays ***** in the centre of the village about 10 minutes walk from the sea.

How to get there

Grand Gaube is 26 km from the capital Port Louis and 70 km from the airport.

You can park for free anywhere along the main public beaches.

The number 22 bus line passes through Grand Gaube and runs to Port Louis (frequency 10-20 minutes).
