Electricity and power sockets

The electricity grid in Mauritius operates at 50 Hz and with a terminal voltage of 230 V.

Sockets and plugs used in Mauritius are of the 'British' type G, but also of the European type 'C'.

A type G socket has three rectangular holes.

Type C sockets do not have a grounding system (it is replaced by a two-phase protection), you can easily plug in, for example, a mobile phone charger or a shaver.

  • Sockets - G and C
  • Voltage - 230 V
  • Frequency - 50 Hz

Internet

In large urban areas, 5G internet coverage is great.

However, you have to take into account that in rural areas, but also in smaller villages, internet coverage is often poor or non-existent.

Public wi-fi networks are offered by the vast majority of hotels and guesthouses and are available in many larger restaurants.

There are many kiosks of local mobile operators at the international airport offering data and regular sim cards.

If you don't want to be delayed on arrival, get a Mauritian data e-sim in advance from airalo.com.
