Ancient monuments can be found not only in the main Rhodes centres, the towns of Rhodes and Lindos, but also in the less visited western part of the island.

About 30 km south of Rhodes Airport is the site of the ancient city of Kamiros, dating from around 1,000 to 500 BC in ancient Greece.

The 10 best hotels in Rhodes

The ancient city of Kamiros was originally spread over three levels with an acropolis on top and residential houses on the slope towards the sea.

Today you can admire the preserved foundations of mainly just the residential houses, the amphitheatre, the remains of temples, fountains and baths, the ruins of the acropolis and an active archaeological site.

Kamiros is the best preserved ancient archaeological site in Rhodes and is certainly nicer and better maintained than the Acropolis of Rhodes.

Entrance fees and opening hours

In the summer season, it is open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, while in winter it closes at 3:30 pm and is closed on Mondays.

The ticket price is per 10 eur.

About 500 meters from the Kamiros area, you can swim at the quite nice and little frequented Kamiros beach.

How to get there

Kamiros is about 45 minutes away from Rhodes airport on the main road.

You will find free parking at the entrance.

There is no bus to the area and it only runs once a day along the main road (about 350 meters).
