Acropolis of Rhodes

Acropolis of Rhodes, amphitheatre

The history of the ancient acropolis of Rhodes dates back to the 5th century BC and is located 3 km west of the Old Town.

The acropolis' hilltop location also invites divine views of the sea, beaches and sunsets.

What will you see and is it worth a visit?

In truth, the Acropolis of Rhodes is a rather neglected monument and many parts are overgrown with grass and have been under renovation for many years, but this has not taken place.

Despite this, we recommend a visit.

The Acropolis includes, for example, a well-preserved ancient stadium or the auditorium of a Greek theatre.

Admission and opening hours

The Acropolis of Rhodes is open every day from 9:00-18:00.

Admission to the entire complex is free.

How to get there

It takes about 20 minutes to walk uphill from the Old Town to the Acropolis, but the elevation gain is not dramatic.

The path is not well signposted, so it comes in handy to have offline maps of the city installed on your phone.

There are no buses to the Acropolis of Rhodes and a taxi ride from the bus station in the city centre will cost around 10 eur.

The viewpoint on St. Stephen's Hill

The road running along the western edge of the Acropolis offers absolutely breathtaking views of Rhodes Town and the resorts of Ixia and Ialyssos.
