Archangelos

The picturesque white town of Archangelos is one of the stops on the way fromRhodes Town or Faliraki to Lindos. It boasts the ruins of a medieval castle.
Besides the fortress, the town surprises with a large number of authentic white houses with original ovens and roofs, a folklore museum and a church with many murals.
In our opinion, Archangelos is an ideal stop for about an hour to an hour and a half during a trip along the west coast. In that time you can comfortably visit the local castle and explore the pretty corners of the village.
The medieval castle of Archangelos
The ruins of St John's Castle, built in the early 14th century by the Knights of Malta, dominate the village.
The castle was built on top of a small hill separating inland Archangelos from the coast, so it also offers a strategic view of the distant sea.
After the takeover of Rhodes by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, the castle began to decay and gradually became a ruin.
Entrance fees and opening hours
Archangelos Castle is open 24/7 and admission is free.
From the centre of the village you walk uphill from here through winding streets quite steeply, but the distance is very short (about 500 metres) so you can walk up in 20 minutes.
Beaches and swimming
Although Archangelos itself is inland, 2km from the centre you'll find the pretty sand and shingle beach of Stegna. This is best accessed by car or, it is a popular resort with a number of renowned seafood restaurants.
Around 10 km by car near the village of Masari you will find the beautiful beach of Agathi with fine sand and a very gentle entrance to the sea.
