Marina Bay Sands is one of the most famous buildings in the world - three towers connected by a "boat" at the top.

It's mainly a hotel. But for most tourists, it is mainly an iconic building that they will admire from the outside. Or they'll visit the public observation deck on the 55th floor.

👉 Is it worth going to the observation deck?
👉 Or does it make sense to stay here? We gave it a try and wrote a review of our stay at Marina Bay Sands

Is it worth going to Marina Bay Sands?

Yes, if:

  • you want the best view of Singapore
  • it's your first visit
  • you want to see Gardens by the Bay from above

❌ Not really, unless:

  • you are satisfied with views from other places (e.g. Marina Barrage)
  • you don't want to pay the entrance fee
  • you plan to stay at the hotel (the view is free)

💡 Alternative:
CapitaSpring Sky Garden - free and nicer views.

What you will actually see here

The main reason to visit is the building itself.

Most tourists just need to see Marina Bay Sands. That's how iconic a building it is.

SkyPark Overlook - is it worth going up?

For ordinary tourists, the main attraction is the observation deck on the 55th floor, 200 meters above the ground.

  • A panoramic view of the entire city
  • views of Gardens by the Bay and downtown

For me, it's worth going here. You can best see Downtown from here, the iconic line of cargo ships in the background at sea, and most importantly Gardens by the Bay. You can't see them as well from any other vantage point.

👉 That's the main reason to come here.

How much does it cost for the view

Prices are tiered depending on when you want to go.

We list prices for adults:

  • 35 sgd
    • 10:00-16:00
  • 39 sgd
    • 16:00-22:00

It's not cheap, but the view is one of the best in town.

Do I have to book a ticket in advance?

Usually not, but if you want to go for the sunset, we definitely recommend booking at least 1-2 days in advance.

Promenade and Olympic Walk

The wide pedestrian promenade with palm trees, part of which is called the Olympic Walk, is one of my favourite places in Singapore.

You have it all here - food courts, shops, views of the Downtown skyline and plenty of benches.

It's the perfect place to stroll around all day.

The shopping centre and the surrounding area

Below the hotel and along the entire promenade you will find a huge shopping centre.

  • Luxury mall - fashion stores, Apple Store, Louis Vuitton Store, jewelry, electronics, sports and much more
  • Restaurants including several Michelin star restaurants
  • Casino

Marin Bay Sands is one of the most famous shopping malls in the world.

In addition, the boardwalk also features famous and architecturally unique shops:

  • Apple Store
  • Louis Vuitton

Can I visit the hotel lobby?

Yes. The entire ground floor of the hotel is open to the public so you can see the unique architecture from the inside.

Most common mistakes

1️⃣ Waiting for access to the pool
This is for guests only.

2️⃣ You go upstairs at noon
The light is the worst.

3️⃣ You won't consider the alternatives.
Marina Barrage is free and surprisingly good.
