Marina Bay
The bay in the central part of Singapore is the business district and the main reason to go to Singapore.
Its beauty is showcased especially in the nightly illumination of skyscrapers, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which features a world-famous swimming pool on its roof, a Ferris wheel and lion statues along the bay.
Marina Bay was a highlight of our stay - the walks, the morning run, the evening show and the food.
Is Marina Bay worth a visit?
✅ Yes, if:
- you are visiting Singapore for the first time
- you want to see the city's most famous skyline
- you are planning an evening program (show, walk, sightseeing)
❌ Not likely, unless:
- you are looking for an authentic atmosphere without tourists
💡 Alternative:
Singapore Botanic Gardens - a quieter and less touristy environment.

Spectra Light Show at Marina Bay Sands
Every evening, the Spectra light and water show takes place right at Marina Bay Sands.
Fountains, projections on the water wall and music all take place on the surface of the bay.
It works best as part of an evening stroll - you stop, look and move on.
Spectra show times and admission price
- 💰 The show is free
- 🕖 Friday + Saturday - 20:00, 21:00, 22:00
- 🕖 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday - 20:00, 21:00
- ⏰ Show length - 15 minutes
Where did we watch the Spectra show?
- Many travelers state that the best place is the Event Plaza in front of Marina Bay Sands
- But a much better spot is from Merlion Park, when you can see the whole Marina Bay Sands hotel lit up
- but we watched the Spectra show from the side of the park near Fullerton Bay
Why were we at this location?
We didn't want to be directly under Marina Bay Sands - you have the closest show, but I think that's more of a disadvantage - you don't see the overall panorama.
I think Merlion Park is the best, but there were extreme crowds. The little park near Fullerton Bay was almost empty and the views were still great.

How to combine Spectra with Supertrees show
If you want to make the most of the evening, combine Spectra with a show at Gardens by the Bay.
👉 The perfect scenario:
- Spectra at Marina Bay Sands (20:00) - lasts 15 minutes
- walk (approx. 20 minutes)
- Garden Rhapsody at Supertrees (8:45pm)
👉 Thanks to:
- you have a good seat for both shows
- the evening passes without stress
- you don't have to plan anything complicated
If you want to have even more time between shows to catch a quick fast-food meal, for example, you can do it the other way around:
- Garden Rhapsody at Supertrees (7:45 pm)
- Spectra (21:00)
How to get around Marina Bay (ideal route)
In my experience, this simple route has worked best:
- Merlion Park
- The promenade around the bay
- Marina Bay Sands
- Gardens by the Bay
- Marina Barrage
👉 Time: approx. 2-4 hours depending on pace
