The Blue Bay Marine Reserve is one of the most popular bays in southern Mauritius, with beautiful beaches and great conditions for snorkelling without having to pay for boat trips.

Blue Bay Public Beach

Much of Blue Bay is occupied by apartments and private houses, but right in the centre of Blue Bay town you'll find one of the most beautiful public beaches in southern Mauritius.

A strip of very fine white sand is shaded by photogenic palm trees and there are several food stalls and restaurants around the beach.

Snorkelling and diving

The Blue Bay Marine Park is probably the best snorkelling spot on the whole island, and conditions are also good for diving.

The great thing is that you can snorkel right from the beach after swimming just a few dozen metres to the nearest coral reefs.

Snorkelling here is therefore ideal for beginners and children. However, it is recommended to bring your own snorkel. Some shops do offer snorkels for purchase, but they are not always open.

In addition, there are several tourist agencies in Blue Bay that organize cruises to the middle of the bay, where conditions are even better for both snorkeling and diving.

How to get there

Blue Bay is located 11 km from the airport and 8 km from Mahébourg town and is easily reached by a good and well signposted road.

There is free parking right next to the public beach, where you can usually always find a free space.

Blue Bay beach is also served by bus line 46, which runs 1-2 times an hour to Mahébourg via Point d'Esny.
