Anthony Quinn Beach

This famous beach is named after the American actor Anthony Quinn, who filmed the movie "The Guns of Navarone" in 1961.
Anthony Quinn Beach is narrow, small and pebbly and lies in a beautiful bay lined with photogenic rocks. Its main asset, however, is its crystal clear water, ideal for snorkelling and diving.
Many travellers agree that the beach at Anthony Quinn's Bay is the most beautiful in Rhodes.
A picturesque beach under siege by people
Anthony Quinn's beach is actually very small, measuring only about 100 meters in its entirety.
The surface is pebbly and the entrance to the water is often made up of large sharp stones, but it is always possible to find a more comfortable and gradual entrance.
The clear water and rugged bottom make for beautiful scenery, but with the beach literally bursting at the seams and the large number of cruise ships in the bay, snorkelling conditions are poor.
Prices for sunbeds and umbrellas
You can rent a sun lounger and parasol on the beach - a set of 2 sun loungers + parasol for the whole day costs 30 eur, which is probably the most of any beach in Rhodes.
But you will have plenty of space on the right side, where there are mainly large rocks, without having to rent a sunbed.
Restaurants and other facilities
There is a free fresh water shower on the beach.
Directly above the beach by the car park there is one classic restaurant (quite high prices - musaka around 15 eur) and one small bistro where prices are in contrast very reasonable (sandwich around 6 eur, which is lower than in many supermarkets).
Our opinion - is Anthony Quinn beach worth it?
I can't disagree. Anthony Quinn Bay is magical, spectacular and the crystal clear water plays with all shades of blue.
But everything has its pros and cons. The beach is located in a narrow cove and because of it's notoriety, it is literally bursting at the seams from about 9am.
The best time to visit?
If you don't mind getting up in the morning, then until about 8:00 the beach is extremely quiet and semi-empty and most importantly - there are no cruise ships with large groups of people in the bay yet.
Most people are on Anthony Quinn Beach between 9:00 and 17:00, after that the beach gradually empties out again, but the cruise ships don't leave until around 19:30.

How to get there
The beach is accessible on foot, by car, by bus, and by boat!
By car
If you're travelling around Rhodes by car, you can drive right up to the beach on a fairly well-marked road.
The parking lot located about 80 meters from the beach is free of charge. But already around 9:30 it is practically impossible to find a free parking space and not many cars can fit along the very narrow road.
The later you arrive, the further you have to park from the beach (often more than 1,5 km). All parking in the area is free.
By bus
There is a KTEL Rodou bus stop about 500 metres from the beach just above Ladiko Bay.
Always buy your tickets from the driver and in cash only.

Buses run 4 times a day on the Anthony Quinn - Faliraki - Rhodes Town route and a ticket to any destination costs 2,50 eur.
By boat
Although regular ferries do not run to Anthony Quinn beach, a large number of cruises stop in the bay, departing from virtually all the resorts along the east coast.
Common prices for a cruise from Rhodes Town to Lindos, for example, with a stop at Anthony Quinn for swimming (about 20-30 minutes) range between 40 eur and 65 eur depending on length.
Usually you just need to come to the port and book your cruise on the spot.

On foot
From the resort of Faliraki, there is a very nice walk around to the beach via a hill with an observatory and a viewpoint.
Expect elevation changes and a rocky path, for which good shoes are definitely advisable.
However, the distance is short (3 km one way) and even untrained travellers can manage the route - route map.
