Hippocrates Square

Old Town

Hippocrates Square is the imaginary centre of the Old Town of Rhodes, where several main streets meet and where you will find several interesting places.

The square is where two of the three main pedestrian zones in the Old Town intersect:

  • Aristotle Street heading east towards the harbour and another beautiful square, Platia Evreon Martiron.
  • Socrates Street heading west towards the Clocktower

What to see in Hippocrates Square?

The main landmark of the square is the beautiful fountain built in 1934. Shaped like a tower, it is made of white marble, with the interior lined with blue ceramic, so that when combined with the water, the fountain creates a vibrant azure colour.

The main monument in the square is the mid-16th century Sindrivan Mosque, which is unfortunately not open to the public.

There are also countless cafes and restaurants on the square.
