Ixia and Ialysos beach

The long pebble beaches in the north-west of the island, over 5 km long, stretch along the resorts of Ixia and Ialyssos (sometimes spelled Ialyssos) and are ideal for a more active holiday.
The regular and constant winds make the place ideal for windsurfing, kitesurfing and classic surfers. Here you will find many equipment rentals and schools for beginners.
The extra wind on hot summer days makes conditions much more favourable than on the eastern, mostly windless, part of the island.
Beaches and swimming
Ixia beach is a livelier place with lots of big expensive hotel complexes, bars and large restaurants. You'll also find the largest selection of surf equipment rentals as well as schools for beginners.
For examples of prices, check out the website of one of the biggest beach rentals, Ixia surfersparadise.gr.
Ialysos beach is located in the centre of the town of the same name, it is a bit quieter than Ixia, you will find rather smaller tavernas and snack bars as well as cheaper hotels, guesthouses and classic supermarkets.
Prices for sunbeds and umbrellas are around 20 eur per set for 1 day.
Tourist services in Ialysos
Ialysos is the second largest town on Rhodes, so it will offer a full range of services such as supermarkets, post office, banks and of course a large number of tourist restaurants and shops.
But in truth, the town of Ialysos itself is not very nice and well maintained except for the beaches, which are clean.
However, Ialysos has a great location and within 10 minutes you can get a bus from here to the beautiful historic Rhodes Town.
Holidays Ialysos and Ixia - best hotels
Ialysos is the most popular resort on the east coast of Rhodes among tour operators.
When planning a holiday with a travel agent to Faliraki, we would choose from these top rated hotels. View the best weekly deals:
- Sol by Meliá Cosmopolitan **** - a highly rated hotel by Ixia beach with the ideal compromise of luxury and good prices
- Sunshine Rhodes **** - a pleasant hotel close to the centre and right on the beach
- The Ixian Grand & Suites ***** - one of the most luxurious resorts on the east coast with a great location in a quiet spot by the beach yet close to the centre
Accommodation for individual travellers
The resorts of Ialysos and Ixia have perhaps the largest concentration of large hotels on the island. In Ixia you will find the most expensive all-inclusive hotel complexes, but also cheap apartment complexes with prices starting from 85 eur per night per room.
Ialysos will then offer a wider range of options for low-cost travellers with cheaper guesthouses from 75 eur per night per room
Ialyssos town centre in particular is one of the cheapest destinations on Rhodes. You can get accommodation in a 2 bed apartment or hotel from 40 eur. Among the cheap and well rated accommodation we would recommend Anixis Hotel *** or Trianta Hotel Apartments.
Of the cheaper resorts right on the beach we would choose the Sun Beach Resort ****.
Transportation to Ialysos
There are many small and large car parks along the beaches, all of which are free.
The easiest place to park is right next to the beaches in Ialysos, but there is almost always plenty of free parking along the main road along Ixia Beach.
The same bus routes run to both Ialysos and Ixia. You can find timetables on the rodospublictransport.gr website.
