Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach

Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach

Thong Nai Pan Yai is one of the best beaches on Koh Phangan if you want peace, and space without chaos.

It lies in the quiet northeast of the island, and compared to the next door Thong Nai Pan Noi, it's larger, more open and overall less 'luxurious', but often more practical and accessible.

The 10 best hotels on Thong Nai Pan

👉 If you're deciding which of these two beaches to choose, key difference:

  • Yai = more space, quiet, better prices
  • Noi = more compact, more luxurious, more "resort" but less accessible for non-resort visitors

Is it worth visiting Thong Nai Pan Yai?

Yes, if:

  • you want a quiet beach without party tourism
  • you want plenty of space
  • you want a combination of beach + restaurants + cheap accommodation

❌ More likely not, if:

  • you want nightlife
  • you are short on time and don't want to go further away from the main areas

💡 Alternative:
For a more upmarket vibe go to Thong Nai Pan Noi, for easier accessibility Haad Yao.

What is the beach really like

  • Long and wide beach
  • fine light sand
  • palm trees and open space
  • fewer people than in the west of the island

👉 One of the most comfortable beaches for a "day stay".

Swimming and conditions

  • Gentle entry into the water
  • mostly calm sea (despite the east coast having bigger waves)
  • good swimming conditions

Above average by Koh Phangan standards and I think I liked this beach the best out of the east coast!

💡 Not as extremely affected by low tide as the west of the island.

Atmosphere and difference from Noi

Although the beaches are separated by a small rocky peninsula on which Panviman Resort is located, there are quite a few differences between the two.

Thong Nai Pan Yai:

  • More space
  • less luxurious
  • more accessible to the public

Thong Nai Pan Noi:

  • more resorts
  • more luxury vibe
  • less space

How to get there

  • approx 45 min from Thong Sala
  • Almost all the way along the mountain road - good quality road but very steep sections!

It's not "on the road" - you have to drive here purposefully.

Parking is free anywhere along the main road - 1 minute walk to the beach.

Accommodation - why this makes a lot of sense

This is one of the best areas to live on the island if you want peace and quiet and a good swim in the sea.

The downside is the poorer accessibility to other parts of the island.

There are several cheaper resorts on the beach with prices around 65 eur per night.
