Where to stay in Koh Phangan
Choosing accommodation on Koh Phangan is not just about price or beach. Location is even more crucial here than on Samui.
The island is hilly, the traffic is more complicated and the different parts have a completely different vibe - from party chaos to absolute calm.
π My experience.
π Before you choose a hotel, I recommend you also go through the transportation section of Koh Phangan - it will fundamentally affect where it makes sense to stay.
Quick decision
- π party β Haad Rin
- πΉ accessibility β Thong Sala (but not a very nice town and ugly beaches)
- π΄ beach + tranquility β Haad Yao / West
- π§ vibe, yoga and zen β Srithanu
- ποΈ absolute tranquility β east
π¬ If you have your own tip for Koh Phangan accommodation, post it in the comments - this is exactly the chapter where personal experience gives the most value.
My recommendations (I did this one)
If you're going to Koh Phangan for the first time and you especially want to experience the unique vibe of the island:
- β‘οΈ I would choose the west of the island - Srithanu / Haad Yao
- β‘οΈ combination of nice beach + restaurants + accessibility + yoga
If you are going to party for the experience:
- β‘οΈ south of the island - Haad Rin
- Full Moon Party is held here and it's not far to Ban Tai area where there are other parties
If you're going for peace and quiet:
- β‘οΈ definitely the east coast - Thong Nai Pan
- β‘οΈ we stayed here in a beautiful hotel with a view

Best locations on Koh Phangan
These locations only make sense if you don't want to stay completely out of the attractions.
Haad Rin - Full Moon Party and Nightlife
The most famous spot on the island.
- Full Moon Party
- Bars, clubs
- good beach
π Hotel I would choose: Explorar Koh Phangan
- adults-only
- close to the action but not right in the noise
- great price/quality ratio
π Alternatives:
- π The Cabin Beach Resort β stylish boutique away from the main hustle and bustle
- π° Palita Lodge β cheaper super resort in the centre of Haad Rin
Srithanu - vibe, yoga, cafes
My personal favourite part of the island.
- digital nomads
- healthy restaurants
- chill atmosphere
π Hotel I would choose: Sea Garden Resort Haad Chao Phao
- Simple but functional
- good location
- great rates
π Alternatives:
- β Benjamin's Hut β top price/beach ratio
- π° Shiralea Backpackers Resort β cheap and popular
Haad Yao / Haad Salad - best beaches
West of the island = the best combination of beach and tranquility.
- beautiful beaches
- quieter than Haad Rin
- good resorts
π Hotel I would choose: Amara Beach Resort Koh Phangan
- right on the beach
- top resort
- perfect for a relaxing holiday
π Alternatives:
- π High Life Bungalow β hotel with a view
- π° See Through Resort Haad Yao β cheap but functional
Hotels in the west of the island
Northeast of the island
It's no longer about "vacation" here, it's about being cut off from the world. Total relaxation.
- The minimum number of people
- worse accessibility
- need for a scooter or car
π A hotel that makes sense: Bottle Beach Resort
- the most secluded beach
- authentic atmosphere
- simple but unique
π Alternatives:
- β Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas β the most luxurious hotel on Koh Phangan, quiet but good accessibility
- π¨ Panviman Resort: My review with photos
Thong Sala - the best base
Capital and transport hub. Don't look for the prettiest beach here, but logistically it makes the most sense if you want to explore more parts of the island.
Or if you just want to stay close to the port before an early morning departure.
- Restaurants, cafes
- best accessibility
- ideal for a shorter stay (max 1-2 nights)
π Hotel I would choose: Amazing Inn Koh Phangan
- Right opposite the harbour
- best place for logistics
Luxury hotels on Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan isn't as "luxurious" as Koh Samui, but that's exactly its advantage.
The island is less crowded and more authentic.
π My top choice.
- Strong "wow effect" (views, pools, jungle)
- better price than top resorts on Samui
- ideal luxury / price compromise
My review of Panviman Resort Koh Phangan
Other hotels that make sense:
- Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas - π top luxury
- Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa - π iconic design, tranquility and views
How much do hotels on Koh Phangan cost
| Category | Price / night |
|---|---|
| π° Budget | From 1 000 thb |
| β Mid-range | 2000 thb - 4 000 thb |
| π Luxury | from 6 000 thb |
In general, Koh Phangan is slightly cheaper than Koh Samui.
When are hotels the most expensive?
High season:
- Full Moon Party
- Christmas / New Year
Prices can be up to 2x higher than the rest of the year.
Cheapest season:
- October - November (rainy season)
In high season, I definitely recommend booking your hotel at least 2 months in advance!

Most common mistakes when choosing a hotel
1οΈβ£ Wrong location
Biggest mistake on the whole island
2οΈβ£ Ignoring traffic
No scooter = major restriction
3οΈβ£ Choosing by price only
A cheap hotel often means a bad experience
4οΈβ£ Not addressing the Full Moon date
Sold out or extremely expensive
My final advice
Pay even more on Koh Phangan than elsewhere:
π location > hotel
π If I had to simplify it:
- first time β Srithanu / Haad Yao
- party β Haad Rin
- comfort β resort
- long stay β combination of multiple locations
π Best strategy:
β‘οΈ split your stay into 2 locations
β‘οΈ experience more without compromising
