Namtok Phaeng
Namtok Phaeng is the most famous waterfall on Koh Phangan and the main natural area in the middle of the island.
It's not just one waterfall - there's a short jungle hike, smaller cascades (including Phaeng Noi) and, most importantly, the Dom Sila viewpoint, which is the real highlight.
Is it worth visiting Namtok Phaeng?
✅ Yes, if:
- you want a short hike in the jungle with a view
- you're driving through the middle of the island
- you're looking for a change from the beaches
❌ More likely not if:
- you're expecting a big waterfall
- you're here in the dry season
- you're short on time
What you'll actually see here
- Phaeng Noi Waterfall - the lower, most accessible part
- other smaller cascades higher up in the jungle
- Dom Sila Viewpoint - the main reason to come here
👉 The waterfall is more of an accessory. The viewpoint is the highlight.
Dom Sila Viewpoint (main highlight)
Don't miss this one.
- about 10-15 minutes hike from the waterfall
- view of the jungle and the interior of the island
- minimum of people
👉 One of the best views on Koh Phangan.
Reality by season
- after the rains → the waterfall has power and purpose
- in dry season → low flow or almost no water
Without water, it's more like a short hike + view.
How to get there
One of the most accessible natural spots on the island.
- About 15-20 min from Thong Sala
- good road to the site
- short walking route
At the entrance there is a large parking lot for scooters (20 thb) and cars (30 thb). You can only pay in cash.
Entrance fees and opening hours
There is an entrance fee to Than Sadet-Phaeng National Park:
- 100 thb - per person
- + parking fee, see above
One ticket is also valid for Than Sadet, but you must be able to visit both areas within one calendar day.
The national park area is open daily from 8:30-16:30.
There are a couple of souvenir and refreshment stalls on site, as well as free toilets or even showers.
Most common mistakes
1️⃣ Expecting a big waterfall
It's a smaller cascade.
2️⃣ Ignoring the viewpoint
The best part is at the top.
3️⃣ A visit in the dry with no expectations
Without water, it loses its main effect.
