Malibu Beach is one of the nicest "classic" beaches on Koh Phangan - white sand, palm trees and minimum chaos. It can be found in the northern part of the island in the Chaloklum area and is often referred to as Chaloklum Beach.

We went here with fairly high expectations, but left with quite a bit of disappointment.

It really depends on whether the tide is high or low. And we arrived at low tide.

Is Malibu Beach worth a visit?

✅ Yes, if:

• you want a beautiful beach with palm trees and white sand
• you want a quieter place without the party atmosphere
• you want good swimming (above average for Koh Phangan)

❌ More likely not if:

• you are looking for a completely deserted beach
• you want dramatic Bottle Beach type scenery
• you want nightlife in the evening
• you don't watch the tide

For even more tranquility try the east coast. For a better background Haad Yao.

• Malibu Beach - the most common name (especially among tourists)
• Chaloklum Beach - the official name of the entire beach

• Malibu Beach = the nicest part of Chaloklum Beach

What the beach is really like

• fine white sand (above standard for Phangan)
• palm trees right on the beach → very photogenic
• wide and long beach
• often really crowded

One of the best well accessible "instagram-vibe" beach spots on the island.

Swimming and conditions

• Gentle entry into the water
• Mostly calm sea (sheltered bay)
• watch the tide. At low tide the water is far from the beach and swimming is almost impossible!

There are several touristy restaurants on the beach.

Also available are showers for 10 thb and toilets for 20 thb.

Malibu beach and its surroundings are very popular with kitesurfers due to the stable winds and wide area.

When to go here

• best: morning and early afternoon
• Sunsets are not the main highlight here (facing north)

How to get there

• by scooter / car - about 40 minutes from the main port of Thong Sala
• comfortable road to the beach

Parking is easy - for scooters right by the beach. For cars only along the main road (there are plenty of spaces). In both cases parking is free.

Accommodation in Chaloklum

If you want tranquillity and an authentic atmosphere, Chaloklum is one of the best locations on the island.

• Quiet area without party tourism
• great restaurants (especially seafood)
• good base for the north of the island
