Haad Sadet Beach

Haad Sadet Beach

Haad Sadet is a completely different Koh Phangan. No long sandy beaches with bars - instead a jungle, a river flowing into the sea and a vibe that feels much more "wild" and authentic.

It's in the Than Sadet National Park area and historically the King of Thailand used to come here. And even today it has a slightly different vibe to the rest of the island.

Sometimes the name Than Sadet is also used for this beach. You'll find Than Sadet waterfall right next to the beach.

Is Haad Sadet worth a visit?

Yes, if:

  • you want a quiet place off the main tourist routes
  • you like the combination of beach + jungle + waterfall
  • you want to experience a different Koh Phangan

❌ More likely not if:

  • you are looking for a top swimming beach
  • you want easy access and comfort
  • you are short on time and just want the highlights

💡 Alternative:
Haad Yao for better swimming, Bottle Beach for more dramatic scenery.

What the beach is really like

Haad Sadet lies in a cove surrounded by jungle.

  • More of a smaller, natural beach, but still plenty of space
  • coarser sand + photogenic rocks on the sides of the bay
  • Jungle all the way to the sea
  • minimum infrastructure (one bar and one restaurant)

👉 It's not an "instagram beach" but it has a strong atmosphere.

Swimming and conditions

  • the entrance to the water can be steep
  • waves depend on the weather but are generally bigger on the east coast than the west coast
  • Swimming rather average

👉 This is not a beach you go to primarily for swimming.

How to get there

You'll find the beach on the east coast and there's an asphalt road leading up to it.

The road from the west coast leads over very steep hills.

  • Thong Sala Harbour - 17 km
  • Haad Rin - 16 km
  • Mae Haad Beach - 27 km

Free parking for scooters and cars is right by the beach.

Entrance fees and opening hours

You can drive to the beach 24/7, but during the day between 8:30am-4pm you go through the gate into the national park where you pay 100 thb per person.

You can only pay in cash.

Accommodation in the area

On the hillside above the beach you will find a few simple bungalows with bungalows.

Prices are very low here.

I would recommend these accommodations with good ratings:

If you want peace and nature, you can stay right here.

👉 Benefits:

  • minimum people
  • nature and tranquility
  • unique vibe
  • low prices

👉 Disadvantage:

  • Limited services
  • poorer accessibility

Most common mistakes

1️⃣ Expecting a classic beach
This is more of a nature spot than a beach day spot.

2️⃣ Underestimating the trip
The beach is far away and over steep hills (can be a problem especially on a scooter).

3️⃣ Bad timing of the waterfall
In dry weather there can be almost no water.
