arrival by airport Changi
Singapore Changi is not just an airport, but one of the places to go in Singapore without a flight. The reason is simple - the Jewel complex, which is connected to the terminals and functions as a combination shopping mall, park and attraction.
The main attraction is the Rain Vortex, the world's tallest indoor waterfall in the middle of a glass dome. Around it are gardens, viewing platforms, attractions and restaurants. In addition, a short light show is launched in the evening.
👉 If you have extra time before your flight (or a longer layover), this is one of the most interesting spots in the city.

Is it worth going to Changi just for the Jewel?
✅ Yes, if:
- You want to see the Rain Vortex for yourself
- you have extra time in your itinerary
- you like modern architecture and "instagram" places
❌ More likely no, if:
- You only visit Singapore by land from Malaysia, for example, as part of a 1-day trip from Johor Bahru
- if you have less than 2 hours to change planes
Complex Jewel - what will you see here and in the surrounding area?
- Rain Vortex - the main attraction (best effect in the evening when there are evening shows at 8pm and 9pm every day)
- Canopy Park - footbridges, nets, smaller attractions
- Wonderfall - 14 metre high digital waterfall over the exit from the arrivals hall in Terminal 2
- Gardens and green areas
- restaurants and shops
Rather than being part of the airport, Jewel acts as a large shopping and entertainment centre.
My recommendation
It's definitely worth heading to Changi Airport just to visit Jewel earlier before departure than other airports.
We planned it so that we left the Marina Bay Sands Hotel 5 hours before our flight. Half an hour drive, we had 2 hours at Jewel and the remaining 2.5 hours were spent in the lounge before departure.
