Chamarel

Chamarel is a village in the south-western part of Mauritius, located below the highest mountains of the island between the Black River Gorges NP and Le Morne Brabant.
The famous geopark containing many tourist attractions is named after this small village of only a few dozen inhabitants.

The village itself is not very interesting and you will find only one small church and a few cheap restaurants with local cuisine.
Chamarel Geopark
The main tourist attraction is the Chamarel Geopark.
Just before entering this reserve, you will find two other worthy stops - there is no fee to enter the geopark.

- Coffee Plantation - discover all about coffee growing and take a tour of the coffee plantation

- Tours daily at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
- Tour lasts 90 minutes and online booking is recommended
- Price 750 mur
After these two attractions, you are entering the Chamarel Natural Geopark itself, where you have to pay to enter.
You pay per person and not just per car:

- 325 mur - children up to 12 years old

You will experience adrenaline fun at Lavellion Adventure Park located in a deep tropical forest.
In the park you can use the zip-line, ride a horse, try archery or the via ferrata rock trail.

The Chamarel area is great for accommodation if you are looking for nature, peace and quiet.

How to get there
The best way to get to the Chamarel area is by hire car. You'll have the freedom to stop anywhere along the way for breathtaking views as well as time on site.
The mountain road to Chamarel has been reconstructed and is well signposted.
