Getting around Putrajaya

Transport between tourist attractions is most efficiently provided by cars via the Grab mobile app, but water taxis can also be used.

Grab / Taxi
While conventional taxis are quite scarce in Putrajaya and can be found mainly at the train/metro station or at the Putra Mosque, the Grab mobile app covers the entire city reliably.
Waiting time for a car via Grab ranges between 5-15 minutes.
Prices are low and if you drive across the city, you'll usually pay around 8 myr.
A trip from Central Putrajaya to Putrajaya Sentral station usually costs around 5,50 myr.
Water taxis
Yellow speedboats for around 25 people ply the artificial Putrajaya lake at regular intervals of 20-75 minutes each day.
So the name of these boats is a bit confusing: they are not a conventional taxi on call, but a regular boat service with a fixed schedule.
The water taxi docks are at all the major attractions - the Botanical Gardens, the Putra Mosque and nearby Putra Square or Putra Bridge, as well as the Millennium Monument or the Iron Mosque. There is also a dock at the most popular tourist hotel Zenith.
Timetable
Boats sail from Monday to Friday at approximately 10:00-17:15 with an interval of 50 to 75 minutes.
On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays they sail from 8:00 to 17:45 with an interval of 20 to 70 minutes.
We spent a full day in Putrajaya and the boat never once arrived on time. Delays of even more than 10-15 minutes are quite common!
Ticket prices
Fares are low and the water taxi actually works as a transport option and not just an overpriced tourist attraction.
Between the furthest piers you pay 7 myr for 1 ride, while the lowest price between neighbouring marinas is 2 myr.
You can also buy a day pass for unlimited sailings within 1 calendar day for 25 myr.
The ticket can be purchased on board the ship from the attendant and can be paid by cash or card.
City buses
Buses are mainly used for transport between Putrajaya Sentral train/metro station and the city centre.
All routes run with a frequency of 30 minutes.
Use these routes for the fastest transport from the train/metro to the tourist attractions:
- T509 - direction downtown near Zenith Hotel, Millennium Monument
- Route map
- T511 - direction downtown at Zenith Hotel, Millennium Monument, Putrajaya Square, Iron Mosque, International Convention Centre
- Route map
- P108 - direction Botanical Garden
But of course you can also use the bus lines for transport within the city centre, where these lines are most useful:
- P101 - runs across the city along the main street
- T511 - use to get to the International Convention Centre from Seri WawasanBridge
Links to the route maps include the current location of the buses.
Fares
As all routes are part of the so-called MRT Feeder Bus system, they have reduced fares compared to other routes in the Kuala Lumpur conurbation.
For 1 ride you will pay 1 myr.
Fares can only be paid with a Touch 'n Go transport card and cannot be paid with cash or your own contactless card.
The Touch 'n Go card is attached to a reader inside the bus when boarding and alighting.
Find out where and how much to buy a Touch 'n Go card in our guide to Kuala Lumpur.
