Iron Mosque

Masjid Besi

Officially called "Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque", but known among the public as the "Iron Mosque", it is the second most important mosque in the city after Masjid Putra.

In fact, however, this mosque is the largest in Putrajaya and can accommodate up to 24,000 worshippers.

Unique architecture

This is a modern state of the art building completed in 2009 and earned its nickname "The Iron" due to its unique architecture.

Its façade is constructed of architectural wire mesh and even the silvery colour gives the impression that the entire structure is iron.

The mosque is also unique in that it lacks a minaret.

Tourist visit

Unlike the Putra Mosque, the Iron Mosque is not geared to traditional tourist visits.

Thus, there are no robes covering the shoulders and knees and if you want to visit the mosque together with the worshippers, you can, but only with adequate clothing. That is, long trousers and covered shoulders.

Women must attend separate areas.

The mosque is open daily from 8:00-17:00.
