Gerakas beach

Gerakas is one of the most popular "turtle beaches" on Zakynthos. Located on a tiny, narrow peninsula on the southeastern tip of the island, it's remoteness from the larger resorts has made it a favourite spot for giant tortoises for its tranquillity.

Gerakas Beach is one of the most peaceful spots on Zakynthos. Over 700 metres long, this strip of coarse sand with occasional small pebbles and no facilities at all invites you to spend a really relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts.
Between May and September, giant karets, turtles for which Zakynthos is one of the last refuges in the Mediterranean, appear around the beach. Often making nests and laying eggs on the beach, it's protected and strictly off-limits from dusk to dawn.
It is also forbidden to use any parasols, deck chairs or to stick or bury anything in the sand.
During the day, turtles can be spotted in the shallow waters off the beach.
How to get to Gerakas beach?
Gerakas Bay can only be reached by car. The asphalt road from Vassilikos resort leads to the beach, where you can park along the road. From Zakynthos town, Gerakas is 16 km away.
