The resort of Kalmaki, located in the south of Laganas Bay, is a pleasant and peaceful alternative to the bustling and nightlife-filled resort of Laganas, 2 km away.

The town of Kalamaki itself is made up of un-centralised houses, hotels or apartments scattered around, with a few small tavernas and shops, with more entertainment available in the nearby town of Laganas.

Beaches, swimming and turtle watching

A beautiful sandy beach below a small cliff and sand dunes stretches for over 3km westwards, where it flows freely into the resort of Laganas. The Kalamaki section is indeed considerably quieter and emptier than Laganas, and you'll enjoy much more privacy and natural surroundings.

The sea here is crystal clear, very calm and the entrance is extremely gradual. Kalamaki is also an absolutely ideal resort for families with children.

Due to the presence of the rare giant hawksbill turtles in the local waters, no water sports are allowed on the beach in Kalamaki.

The only organised part of the beach with umbrellas is in the central area by the Crystal Beach Hotel, otherwise the beach is free to use but you are not allowed to stick anything in the sand, including umbrellas. The turtles bury their nests deep in the sand.

Between dusk and dawn, access to the Kalamaki part of the beach is strictly forbidden due to nesting turtles.

You will often see turtles in the water very close to shore, but to make sure you see them, we recommend a cruise from the nearby resort of Laganas to the island of Marathonisi.

Tours to Kalamaki

Although Kalamaki is one of the smaller resorts, Czech travel agencies offer quite a number of tours to many types of hotels.

Weekly prices for all-inclusive tours in high season are usually around 623 eur.

The most popular hotels in Kalamaki with Czech travel agents:

  • Caretta Beach Resort ****
  • Sirocco ***
  • Exotica Hotel & Spa by Zante Plaza ****

Hotels for individual travellers

Individual travellers in Kalamaki will not miss out either. The offer of simple budget apartments with prices from 37 eur per night and classic hotels from 66 eur is quite extensive.

The cheapest hotels include Daniel Hotel ** about 10-15 minutes walk from the beach, of the hotels right by the sea we would recommend Kalamaki Beach Hotel ***.

How to get to Kalamaki?

The resort is popular for, among other things, its proximity to the international airport, which is only 3 km away. If you travel with a tour operator, a bus will take you directly to the hotel within 15 minutes.

Even if you are heading to Kalamaki without a tour operator, it is possible to get here by public bus. Between Zakynthos, Laganas and Kalamki, buses run 7-8 times a day (see timetable and map).
