Laganas is the largest and busiest resort on Zakynthos with the richest nightlife and water sports.

The local beach, combined with the neighbouring smaller resort of Kalamaki, forms the longest continuous stretch of sand on Zakynthos at over 5km long.

The town of Laganas itself boasts a very busy main street stretching inland from the beach and literally dotted with discos, clubs and bars that go on all night until the early hours of the morning. Given its size, however, Laganas also has quieter spots where the hustle and bustle of the centre doesn't reach. Around the beach you'll find a wide selection of tavernas, shops and supermarkets.

Swimming and beaches

The main asset of Laganas is the sandy beach, around 3 km long, with plenty of refreshments, tavernas and a very varied range of water activities and sports.

Here you can rent sun loungers, parasols, pedal boats, boats or go water skiing or inflatable banana boating.

The entrance to the water is very gentle and safe, the waves are small, so the beach is suitable for families with small children during the day. While the part directly in Laganas is very busy, towards Kalamaki the people and houses diminish and you find yourself on a very nice natural beach with sand dunes.

Cameo islet

After the famous Navagio beach in the north of Zakynthos, the second most photographed spot on the island is the small island of Cameo just a few metres off the coast of Laganas.

The small rocky reef separated from the main island of Zakynthos in 1633 during a strong earthquake and today attracts the attention of tourists.

You can walk to Cameo Island from the centre of Laganas in 15 minutes via a wooden bridge of about 80 metres. The rocks of Cameo Island are covered with lush greenery, you will find a small cove with a beach and crystal clear water ideal for snorkelling.

The island also has a popular bar open from morning until midnight.

Cameo Island is privately owned and entrance to the island is charged at 5 eur.

Tours to Laganas

The largest resort on the island of Zante is not to be missed in the portfolios of Czech travel agencies. Laganas is one of the more expensive resorts with better and very high quality resorts, which, like everywhere on Zakynthos, are rather intimate.

Weekly prices for all-inclusive tours in high season are usually around 733 eur.

Hotels for individual travellers

Due to the great competition, individual travellers can enjoy very reasonable rates in Laganas in smaller apartments starting from 33 eur per night for two.

For the cheapest accommodation we would recommend Tony studio & apartments just a short distance from the centre and about 5 minutes to the beach.

For accommodation right on the beach we would choose the very well rated modern aparthotel Denise Beach Hotel ****.

How to get to Laganas?

The resort is also popular due to its accessibility. By car, you can get here in a few minutes from both the airport (9 km) and Zakynthos town (11 km).

While parking is free anywhere in Laganas, be prepared for a shortage of spaces and often a long search and eventually a walk to the beach from the resort's more remote locations.

Laganas is one of the few places on Zakynthos that can be reached by frequent bus service from the capital and the adjacent resort of Kalamaki. The line from Zakynthos runs about 7 times a day, 4-5 times at weekends, see timetable.
