Angelokastro

The ruins of Angelokastro (translated as Angel's Castle) offer one of the most beautiful views in all of Corfu. On a clear day you can see the Old Fortress of Kerkyra, which is no coincidence. The two fortresses were meant to communicate with each other in case of danger. Not much remains of the original fortress today. Only the water cistern and the cave chapel of Agia Kyriaki can be seen.
The Byzantine-era fortress was probably built in the early 13th century during the reign of Michael I. Angelo, the so-called Despot of Epirus. It stands more than 305 metres above sea level on a sharp rocky promontory and is reached only by a narrow and steep path.

How to get there
The castle lies just outside the village of Krini and there is a tarmac road leading up to the ticket booth. There is very little parking space, but it is common to park along the roadside without charge.
The village of Krini is reached by the A16 bus from Corfu Town (Kerkyra) twice a day (weekdays only). From Krini to the castle you have to walk about 1.5 km in one direction.
