Weather in Corfu and best time to go

Corfu

The island of Corfu is situated in a Mediterranean climate, which attracts summer holidays with the certainty of nice and warm weather.

The winters are also mild and pleasant and ideal for exploring the small inland villages.

Corfu is one of the rainiest places in Greece, which makes it also one of the most beautiful green islands full of forests. Most of the rain falls during the winter and the summer weather is usually beautiful and sunny.

Weather and temperatures throughout the year

Wondering if it makes sense to explore Corfu in the low season? Take a look at our weather summary of the island.

Weather in January

January is a relatively rainy month with an average of 17 days when it rains at least part of the day.

Normal temperatures range between 10°C and 15°C and the vast majority of services in the resorts are not working. January is therefore a good month only for exploring the local villages and the authentic atmosphere of the island without tourists.

Weather in February

February is also a typical wet winter month with 13 rainy days and an average temperature of around 14 °C.

There are often cloudy skies and Corfu is completely free of tourists.

Weather in March

Although temperatures slowly rise to an average of 16 °C in March and the rain decreases (12 rainy days out of the month), March is still a completely off-season month with no tourist services operating in Corfu.

During this period you will discover the island in its authentic beauty without tourists.

The weather in April

April is the first month of spring in Corfu, but the temperatures are still below 20°C and even the sea is very cold.

It rains significantly less than in winter, but there are showers about 10 days out of the month. April is therefore also an off-season month, when most resorts and beach services are not yet open.

Weather in May

May is the first month of the low season. Hotels and most beach services are opening, but the sea temperature is still low (between 18 and 20 °C).

Air temperatures normally rise to between 21 and 24 °C, making May ideal for relaxing on the beach.

Resorts are not yet as crowded in this month and prices for accommodation, car rentals and tours are significantly lower than in summer.

Weather in June

June is the first month of summer in Corfu. Rain showers only appear for 4 days a month and are usually very light.

Normal daytime temperatures are around 26°C and even the sea is starting to warm up with water temperatures above 22°C. During June, service prices are still slightly lower than during the summer holidays.

Weather in July

July is the first month of the high season and Corfu attracts thousands of tourists during this period.

Temperatures normally exceed 30 °C, but compared to the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, the overall climate is more pleasant, also thanks to the many trees all over the island.

Rainfall is exceptional in July.

Weather in August

August is statistically the hottest month of the year, with normal temperatures around 31°C. The sea temperature at this time of year is around 26°C.

During August it is practically rainless. Precipitation usually falls only in the form of quick thunderstorms, which can occur in the evening on average 3 days a month.

Weather in September

Temperatures hover around 26 °C, but the sea remains beautifully warmed from the summer and water temperatures are normally between 24 and 26 °C.

September is the best month for a quiet seaside holiday combined with some decent hiking. Service prices are lower than in summer and the sea is warmer than in June.

It rains on average 7 days out of the month, but more precipitation usually occurs towards the end of September.

Weather in October

Hotels and beach services close in mid-October and this is when prices for services or tours tend to be lowest.

Daytime temperatures drop to an average of 23°C and water temperatures hover around 22°C.

October can already be quite a rainy month with an average of 11 rainy days.

Weather in November

November is a completely unseasonal and very rainy month. It rains an average of 14 days out of the month and often there can be overcast skies for several days in a row.

Air temperatures stay around 18°C and sea water temperatures are similar.

Weather in December

December is the rainiest and darkest month of the year. The skies are often overcast, the days are short and temperatures drop to 15 °C.

All tourist services in the resorts are closed and December can be a good month to explore the small but pretty historic centre of Corfu, for example as part of a trip to neighbouring Albania.

When to go to Corfu

If you're heading to Corfu for the sea and swimming, head here from mid-June to mid-September.

July and August are the hottest, most expensive and most crowded months. In June, Corfu is much less crowded, the air temperatures are already summery, but the sea is not yet as warm as it is in September after the high season. The ideal month to go to the sea is the first half of September.

Book a hotel with an off-season discount

If you'd rather explore the island as a whole, prefer more pleasant air temperatures and don't mind cold seas, go to Corfu in April, May or October.

Winter trips to Corfu are suitable for those who want to discover authentic Corfu without tourists and don't mind cold and very rainy weather.

However, there are very few flights to Corfu during winter and you usually have to fly with Aegean Airlines via Athens.
