Ftenagia Beach

Ftenagia

The small beach of Ftenagia lies just under 1 km south of the centre of Chalki, near the windmills.

Of the three best-known and most easily accessible beaches on the island of Chalki, we liked Ftenagia the least, mainly because of the poor access to the water.

On the other hand, if you prefer peace and quiet to swimming, Ftenagia actually offers perhaps the best conditions.

Beach facilities and layout

Ftenagia is less a beach and more a rocky coastline offering safe access to the sea.

The beach itself is just a very narrow strip of pebbles, about 10 metres long, whilst the rest consists of a rocky shoreline and seabed.

Access to the water is therefore quite challenging, but the reward is crystal-clear water ideal for snorkelling. However, you should bear in mind that the marine life around Chalki is generally not very abundant, so snorkelling here is best suited to complete beginners.

On the beach there is a restaurant with sun lounger hire (12 eur for a set of 2 sun loungers + a parasol per day), which are arranged in nicely landscaped areas under the trees, so Ftenagia is a great spot for a relaxing break in the shade with a lovely, photogenic coastline.

How to get there

From Chalki harbour, you can only reach Ftenagia beach on foot via a pleasant walk through the town and along the coast. The distance is 800 metres; see the route map.

Accommodation on the beach

Right by the beach, you’ll find several very modern and highly rated guesthouses with sea views.
