Chorio is a historic village in the interior of the island, situated in a mountain saddle between Chalki Castle and the central mountains.

Chorio used to be the main centre of the island of Chalki due to its difficult accessibility and therefore easy defence. Today there are only 5 permanent inhabitants.

Ancient ruins on steep slopes

This place was already inhabited in the times of Ancient Greece long before AD.

A few archaeological remains of houses or temples have survived, but they are in such a state that it is often difficult to tell whether they are ancient ruins or rocks.

In addition to the ancient monuments, Chorio also has a nice chapel of the Virgin Mary and several houses, one of which even has a restaurant, usually only open during the summer months.

How to get there

From the town of Chalki, Choria is reached by a 3 km long concrete road climbing quite steeply uphill.
