The island of Chalki has no airport or heliport, and the only port, often called "Emporio", is located right in the middle of Chalki.

The only possible way to get there is by regular ferries or with a cruise from Rhodes, where the nearest airport is Rhodes RHO.

Regular ferries

Chalki has boat connections all year round, but from November to April ferries do not run every day and accommodation offers are also very limited.

During the summer from May to October there are two types of ferries.

A fast pedestrian-only boat from western Rhodes

The busiest service is provided by Veli Travel (Nissos Halki), which operates a boat named "AEGEAN GEM".

This route is subsidised by the state and was formerly operated by Alko Travel, which still occasionally appears in search engines, although it has not operated on the Rhodes - Halki route for several years.

The boats carry foot passengers only and sail from the port of Kamiros Skala (sometimes also called "Skala Kamirou") on the west coast of Rhodes.

  • Frequency - 3 to 4 times a day
  • Sailing time - 45 minutes
  • Price of a one way ticket - 14 eur (return is for 28 eur)

Buy your tickets in advance

We recommend buying your boat ticket at least 3 days in advance! This is because the capacity of the boat is often sold out by big tour operators like TUI, who offer their clients organized trips to Chalki from Rhodes.

This is why it often happens that the connection is sold out, especially for the morning sailings from Rhodes to Chalki and the afternoon sailings back from Chalki to Rhodes.

Tickets should only be purchased through the official website nissoshalki.com.

The price is 14 eur.

You must exchange the ticket purchased online for a paper ticket at the ticket office at the dock. Just show the receipt on your mobile phone.

Great car ferries from Rhodes Town

From the main port in Rhodes Town, several companies sail to Chalki - Blue Star Ferries, Saos Ferries and Dodekanisos Seaways, for example.

  • Frequency - 4 to 6 times a week (some days more boats sail, others none)
  • Sailing time - 70 minutes for Dodekanisos Seaways (fast pedestrian-only boats), 105 minutes for other carriers (large car boats)
  • One way ticket price - 10 eur for slower boats, 24 eur for Dodekanisos Seaways
  • Price per car - from 37 eur

You can compare cruise prices and buy tickets, for example, via Directferries.com.

Ferries to other islands

Direct services without the need to change ferries, but with several stops on other islands, are mainly provided by Blue Star Ferries or Saos Ferries.

Ferries usually run 1-2 times a week and ticket prices vary between 20 eur and 40 eur for pedestrians, or between 80 eur and 120 eur for cars.

For example, you can get from Chalki to the following destinations with the following sailing times without changing trains:

  • Athens (Piraeus) - from 16.5 hours
  • Heraklion (Crete) - 9.5 hours
  • Sitia (Crete) - 7 hours
  • Tilos - 35 minutes
  • Kos - 2.5 hours
  • Karpathos - 2.5 hours
  • and more
