City of Chalki

The harbour village of Chalki is the only inhabited settlement on the island and almost all of its inhabitants live here.
The beautifully landscaped and clean village is spread around the harbour with a beautiful pedestrian promenade, many tavernas and several souvenir shops, as well as small supermarkets.
The town of Chalki is also sometimes called Emporio.
Things to see in Chalki
You can walk through the entire village in 15 minutes, but you can still spend a whole day here.
The main centre is the pedestrian promenade, which is bordered to the north by the church with the bell tower that forms the main landmark of the village.
To the south, the promenade continues through narrow streets and a footpath to Ftenagia beach.
If you head straight uphill from the harbour, after about 5 minutes you will reach the largest and most famous beach on the island - Pondamos.
On the southern edge of the town, 3 historic windmills are visible on the hill. However, you cannot get directly to them, as the hill is part of a small military base.
Tourist services in Chalki
Right on the main harbour pier, various tourist agencies have stands offering boat trips for snorkelling or the nearby uninhabited islet of Alimia.
Most tavernas and shops close after the last ferry of the day departs around 18:00.
