Weather in Chalki and best time to go

View from Chalki Castle

Chalki has a very similar climate to the nearby island of Rhodes.

The island lies in the Mediterranean subtropical belt, which is characterised by very dry and warm summers with average temperatures between 28 °C and 33 °C and mild, wet winters with temperatures around 15 °C.

  • The hottest months are July and August with average temperatures above 30 °C
  • Rain-free period - May to September rain is absolutely rare and the probability of clear skies in summer is over 95%!
  • The rainiest months - December to February, with frequent and heavy showers

During the summer, it is often very windy, but as the beaches are in coves protected by hills, you will definitely not be cold. On the contrary, the wind is a welcome refreshment during the sultry summer.

A detailed description of the climate by month of the year is described in the chapter Weather in Rhodes, where the climate is identical.

When to go to Chalki

The high season in Chalki is from June to September, when you are almost 100% sure of sunny weather without rain.

A pleasant climate for hiking is then in March, April, May, October and November, but you should take into account that from November to April there is a significantly limited number of ferries and almost all accommodation on Chalki is closed at this time.

So if you only want to head to Chalki for hiking, we recommend late May or early October.
