Salad Beach (Haad Salad) is exactly the type of beach that almost always works on Koh Phangan.

It's not the most famous, it's not the most photogenic - but it has a great calm/space/swimming ratio, which is why a lot of people end up staying longer than they planned.

Find hotels on Salad Beach

After wandering around the west coast looking for a beach with a vacancy, we ended up here too.

And it ended up being a nice afternoon.

Is Salad Beach worth a visit?

Yes, if:

  • you want a quieter beach without crowds
  • you're looking for a good swim and a laid-back vibe
  • you want a place suitable for a longer stay

❌ More likely not, if:

  • you are looking for an iconic "wow" place
  • you want nightlife or parties
  • you're short on time and only targeting the top spots

💡 Alternative:
Secret Beach or Mae Haad Beach for a nicer "instagram" beach.

What is the beach really like

  • Medium beach
  • fine sand + palm trees
  • calm atmosphere
  • photogenic surroundings

Not overwhelming at first sight, but you'll find plenty of space, cheap restaurants and a grocery store.

Swimming and conditions

  • Gentle entry into the water
  • mostly calm sea
  • corals in places

Good for swimming, but:

  • can be shallower at low tide

Not as extremely tide-dependent as other western beaches, but you can tell the difference.

When to come here

  • Ideal: morning and mid-morning
  • pleasant in the afternoon
  • less crowded than Haad Yao

👉 Works well almost any time of the day.

How to get there

  • approx30 min from Thong Sala
  • you can take a scooter very close to the beach and park it wherever it is free
  • the best place to park your car is at the north end of the beach where there is plenty of street space, otherwise only along the main road about 5 minutes walk from the beach

Accommodation - why it makes sense

Salad Beach is great as a base.

👉 Benefits:

  • peace of mind
  • good price/performance ratio
  • pleasant environment

👉 Disadvantages:

  • lower quality hotels and restaurants
  • far from the Full Moon Party
  • rather quiet in the evening

Personally, I would recommend staying in the central part of the beach, which is much nicer than the edges.

Well-rated local resorts include:

Most common mistakes

1️⃣ Expecting a "wow effect"
This is more of a practical beach than an iconic beach.

2️⃣ Ignoring the tide
Can affect swimming.

3️⃣ Overlooking as a base
Makes a lot of sense for a longer stay.
