Thongson Bay is a small, unassuming beach in the northeast of Koh Samui, just a short walk from Choeng Mon Beach. It's easy to miss at first glance, but if you're looking for tranquillity and few people, it can be a pleasant surprise.

It's not a beach you'd plan a whole day for. But as a short stop or "getaway" from busier places it works well.

What is Thongson Bay really like?

Thongson Bay is really small - a few dozen metres of beach enclosed between rocks and resorts.

Advantages:

• minimum people
• calm water without big waves
• pleasant "hidden" atmosphere

Disadvantages:

• limited space
• fewer services
• not as photogenic as the main beaches
• poorer accessibility

It's more of a place for a short stopover than a day stay.

Nudist beach at Thongson Bay

Interestingly, about 250 metres from Thongson Bay (along a narrow path over rocks) is the only nudist beach on Koh Samui.

It is not an officially marked place, but it has been used for a long time.

If you're interested, be aware that the approach is a bit more "adventurous" and not suitable for everyone.

Is it worth visiting Thongson Beach?

Thongson Bay makes sense especially if:

• you want a quiet beach without people
• you're exploring the north of the island and driving around
• looking for an alternative to Choeng Mon Beach

If you're looking for a beautiful main swimming beach, Choeng Mon or Chaweng Beach would be a better choice.

Beachfront accommodation

Choose a location near Thongson Bay for accommodation if you prefer peace and quiet.

The disadvantage is the greater distance from services, shops and entertainment.

Transport and Accessibility

• 🚗 Car / scooter: the beach is very poorly signposted and navigation is a must! It is possible to drive along the narrow road around the Melati resort right to the beach
• 🚕 Grab / Bolt: accessible but less frequented than in Chaweng

• Choeng Mon Beach: about 10 minutes
• Chaweng Beach: approx. 25 minutes
