Fisherman's Village
Fisherman's Village in the Bophut area is one of the most enjoyable places to spend an evening on Koh Samui. It combines beachfront restaurants, smaller bars, shops and regular night markets.
It's not an authentic fisherman's village in the original sense.
But it works great as a stylish and compact evening centre and I personally loved it.
A quick overview
- πΉ Atmosphere: lively, but quieter than Chaweng
- π½ Restaurants: great choice, especially by the beach
- π Shops: souvenirs, clothes, currency exchange
- Night markets: regular every day (but smaller than in Chaweng)
- π¨βπ©βπ§ Suitable for: couples, families and singles

What does an evening on Fisherman's Village Walking Street look like?
The entire area is centered around one main street along the beach.
Here you will find:
- restaurants with seating right by the sea
- small bars and cafes
- a small market with street food stalls (much smaller than Chaweng Night Market)
- souvenir shops
Compared to Chaweng , it's considerably quieter but lively enough to keep you entertained in the evening.
Fisherman's Village Night Market
The biggest draw is the night market, which is held every day.
What to expect:
- π street food and local dishes
- π clothing, souvenirs
Unlike Chaweng Night Market, this market is:
- Smaller, but even outside of market days there are shopping opportunities on the regular streets
- more diverse
If I had to pick one night market on Samui, this is probably a better choice precisely because it is more diverse. There's plenty of other shopping besides food.
Where to eat and drink
Fisherman's Village is one of the best places to dine on the island.
Here you will find:
- restaurants with sea views
- seafood places
- stylish bars
- street food stalls
There's something for everyone - you can eat really cheaply here, but you can also eat in more upmarket, expensive restaurants.
Plus, just 5 minutes from Walking Street is another streetfood market - Free Wave Market.
Dining at sunset on the beach is one of the best experiences on this part of the island.

Who is Fisherman's Village perfect for?
Works great for:
- Couples (more romantic atmosphere)
- families (no wild parties)
- anyone who doesn't want the chaos of Chaweng
What I liked about Fisherman's Village was the proximity to Bophut Beach, which is literally only 5 metres from the main pedestrian area.
If you're looking for nightlife and clubs, head to Chaweng Beach instead.
Opening hours
Fisherman's Village Walking Street, a pedestrianised area with shops and restaurants, is open every day:
- 18:00-22:00
Night markets with food stalls are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday:
- 18:00-22:00
On other days you can find smaller markets along the pedestrian street where you can buy streetfood every day.
Transport and accessibility
The pedestrian street is right in the centre of Bophut.
- πΆ O n foot: ideal from the whole area around Bophut beach, along which the pedestrian zone runs
- π Grab / Bolt: no problem, accessibility good even at night
- π΅ Car / Scooter: easy parking nearby, we parked along the main road where there are wide shoulders. But it's better to arrive between 18:00 and 19:00 when there is still plenty of space to park.
π Distances:
- Chaweng Beach: about 25 minutes
- Maenam Beach: approx. 15 minutes
- Airport: approx. 15 minutes
