The small town of Sete Cidades lies at the bottom of a huge volcanic crater at the Lagoa das Sete Cidades. The whole area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Azores, especially for its peaceful, lush green landscape of meadows, forests, fields and volcanic lakes.
