Tasiilaq

Tasiilaq is the largest town in East Greenland with 2,000 inhabitants and the only place with tourist facilities in this part of the country.
Travellers head here for hikes in the pristine mountains and beautiful fjords. The bays are full of ice bushes until late summer.

Hiking
Tasiilaq, formerly known as Ammassalik, is one of the best places for long-distance multi-day hiking and, in our opinion, even better than the much more famous Arctic Circle Trail in West Greenland.
The local two long-distance hiking trails take in more interesting landscapes of rugged jagged mountains, lakes and fjords, and there are incomparably fewer tourists than the ACT (and even the ACT is still not a mainstream affair on a global scale).
Other summer activities
Aside from hiking, Tasiilaq offers significantly fewer summer activities than, for example, the better-known Ilulissat.
Still, you can spice up your stay here:
- Boat trips - whale watching - average prices from 120 eur
- Boat trips in the fjords - prices from 220 eur
- Multi-day excursions throughout East Greenland - from 2 000 eur

Tasiilaq in winter - dog sledding and snowmobiling
Tasiilaq is also suitable for a winter visit.
It is the main dog sledding centre in East Greenland. Short half-day trips are available with prices from 150 eur, as well as multi-day treks through the frozen and snowy landscape with prices from 2 500 eur.

The town is also a popular destination for aurora hunters.
Where to stay and shop
Tasiilaq has only one hotel, Angmagssalik ***, open all year round.
In town you can use the Pilersuisoq supermarket open daily from 8:00-20:00.
How to get to Tasiilaq
There is no airport in Tasiilaq, only a heliport, but there are regular flights by Air Greenland helicopters from the nearest airport , Kulusuk KUS.
With Air Greenland you can buy a ticket from Nuuk 3 times a week with a transfer from the plane to the helicopter right in Kulusuk.
If you fly into Kulusuk on Icelandair' s international service from Keflavik Airport, you have two transport options between Kulusuk and Tasiilaq:
