Narsaq is a popular town and tourist centre in southern Greenland. It is located in the southernmost parts of the island and therefore has the most favourable climate.

The surroundings of Narsaq are extremely photogenic with a large number of fjords, breathtaking views, as well as hiking trails. Due to the milder climate, the Narsaq area is also one of the few places where you can find several green agricultural fields in summer.

Hiking

The area around Narsaq and nearby Narsarsuaq is one of the most beautiful for hiking in all of Greenland.

The paths run along stunning fjords from which steep mountains often rise over 1,000 metres above sea level.

You will also pass through small villages and hamlets along the way, which is very unusual elsewhere in Greenland.

Most popular treks:

  • Narsarsuaq - Kiagtut Glacier
    • 10 km one way
    • A relatively easy route with only one short significant elevation gain
  • Trek along the Tasiusaq Fjord
    • from Qassiarsuk harbour a total of 20 km one way (so it is necessary to spend the night in the middle of the journey at Sermilik Hostel)
  • Several days trek Narsaq - Qassiarsuk
    • A total of 55 km long route through the middle of the peninsula over beautiful mountains, usually takes 2-3 days to cross and requires sleeping in a tent

Boat trips

In the town of Narsarsuaq, where the main airport for the Narsaq area is located, there are agencies operating cruises on the local fjords.

Cruises lasting 2-3 hours cost around 88 eur.

All cruise deals can be found on this website arcticexcursions.com/location=narsarsuaq.

Where to stay?

We recommend staying in the town of Narsarsuaq right by the airport or in the small village of Qassiarsuk, where ferries run from the airport.

The best hiking trails lead from these two villages.

In both villages you will find classic hotels that can only be booked directly through the hotel website:

Choose accommodation in the centre of Narsaq if you are coming by ferry from other parts of Greenland.
