Nuuk

Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and most travellers will probably stop here for at least 1 day, as it is here that Greenland's largest airport is located.
How to have fun in Nuuk?
Sights and attractions
With a population of around 20,000, Nuuk is by far the largest city in Greenland. It's not one of the most interesting places in Greenland, but I still enjoyed my time here and it's a fun place to stay for 1-2 days.
- National Greenland Museum - a showcase of Greenlandic life throughout history
- Official website: nka.gl
- Location on the map
- Hans Egede statue - a monument to the important Lutheran missionary is located on the coast and offers beautiful views
- Myggedalen lookout - the most beautiful lookout in old Nuuk, from where you can see the majestic Mount Sermitsiaq (1,210 m above sea level)
- Lake Qallussuup Tasia - a great place for hiking in good weather just outside the town. Take bus 1 to the Qinngorput district, where a hiking trail leads through the valley to the lake.
Boat trips on the fjord
The fjords around Nuuk are among the longest and most beautiful in Norway. However, they are completely inaccessible by land and can only be discovered from the deck of a boat.
The easiest way is to pay for a sightseeing trip from Nuuk with a return trip back to Nuuk, cruises usually last around 5-6 hours and cost from 250 eur upwards.
All available cruises can be booked online via arcticexcursions.com/location=nuuk.
Best hotels in Nuuk
Nuuk may not be the top tourist destination in Greenland, but as it is the capital, you will find some classic hotels. Which ones do we recommend?
- Kulukis Downtown Hostel - a cheap hostel with a separate room but shared bathroom and toilet
- Hotel Hans Egede **** - a modern hotel right in the centre of Nuuk
- HHE Express *** - modern hotel right in the centre of Nuuk
- Hotel SØMA Nuuk *** - hotel with cheap rooms with shared bathrooms and more expensive en-suite rooms, located right by the harbour
Public transport in Nuuk
Nuup Bussii operates 4 bus services across the city.
The busiest routes, 1 and 2, run at a frequency of 20 and serve mainly residential areas. Line 1 can be used to travel to Lake Qallussuup Tasia.
Line 3 runs once an hour and only on weekdays to take you to Nuuk GOH Airport.
Fares can only be paid in cash and cost 20 dkk. However, you don't need to have the exact amount - the driver will refund you if you pay with a note.
