Internet and sockets in Greenland

Do you need an adapter to charge your laptop or mobile phone when travelling to Greenland? What is the internet coverage in Greenland?

Electricity and sockets

The electricity grid in Greenland operates at 50 Hz with a terminal voltage of 230 V.

Sockets and plugs in Greenland are of the same type as in Denmark, i.e. mainly type C, E or F.

Type K plugs also work in these types of sockets.

  • Sockets: C, E, F
  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

Internet

Although Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, it is not part of the EU, so mobile data will not work for free for travellers with a European mobile operator, or on the same terms as at home.

You always have to pay extra for roaming or use an e-sim card, for example from airalo.com.

Mobile and data signal coverage is good in all cities of at least some significance that have a population over 1,000.

Outside cities, mobile signal is completely unavailable.

Public wi-fi networks are offered by the vast majority of hotels and guesthouses and are also available in almost all restaurants.
