Vlacherna Monastery

Almost within walking distance of Corfu Town (Kerkyra) is a building that graces the front pages of most guidebooks.
This small white church stands on a separate islet connected to the island of Corfu by an artificial causeway. The southern end of the runway of Corfu Airport is located in close proximity and the site is thus very popular for the purpose of watching air traffic.
The Vlacherna Monastery dates back to the 17th century and was built for a community of nuns. Nowadays, it no longer serves its original purpose and is mainly a tourist attraction.
For a small fee (approx. €5), a local captain will take you to the island of Pontikonisi (Mouse Island), less than a kilometre away, where the Byzantine chapel stands.
Entrance fees and opening hours
The monastery premises are open daily from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and admission is free.
How to get there
