National Anthropological Museum

Museo Antropologia

The National Museum of Anthropology is one of the most visited museums in Mexico and is considered by many travelers to be the best museum in all of Latin America.

If you visit Teotihuacán, Templo Mayor or later Chichén Itzá during your stay, this is where you will best understand the history of the civilizations that built these places.

What will you see at the museum and why is it so famous?

The most famous exhibit is the giant Aztec Sun Stone, which is often mistakenly referred to as the Aztec Calendar.

But the museum is far from just about the Aztecs.

You'll also see monumental Olmec heads, Mayan artefacts, reconstructions of tombs, original statues and thousands of objects from before the arrival of the Spanish.

Even if you don't normally visit museums, this is what tends to be a pleasant surprise for many tourists.

The exhibitions are modern and help put into context the places you are likely to visit during your trip to Mexico.

I recommend setting aside at least 2 hours for your visit. History buffs can easily spend half a day here.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The museum is located on the edge of Chapultepec Park.

Booking in advance is not possible, you can buy tickets on the spot.
