The market in Central Flacq is the largest market in Mauritius and a very popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

In the partially covered area you will find more than 1,000 stalls selling all kinds of goods.

Fruit, hot food and clothing

Fresh fruit and vegetables, fish products and meat take up most of the space.

Another huge section is filled with vendors selling cheap clothes and at the very back you will also find several souvenir shops.

But the best part is definitely the hot food section! This is where I spent by far the longest time.

You'll find rather smaller stalls, but with a full range of Mauritian specialties like roti fritters, dhol puri or full meals like Bol Renversé, Mine Frite or Briani.

Opening hours

Central Flacq Market is open only twice a week - on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The first stalls open at 6:00am and the last ones close at 5:00pm.

However, we recommend arriving in the morning or early afternoon. Some stalls close early from around 3pm.

How to get there

Although there is a relatively large free car park right next to the market, parking is often a problem.

We ended up parking along the main street about 500 meters from the market.

Generally, free parking is available wherever you can find a free space.
