It offers impressive views of Kuala Lumpur and is worth a short visit in itself, despite being largely detached from the rest of the tourist attractions.
The temple is dedicated to the Chinese goddess of the sea, Mazu.
Tourist visit - entrance fee
All outdoor and indoor areas of the temple are freely accessible to worshippers and all tourists.
There are no dress-code requirements. Only in case of visiting the inner temple, you have to undress just before entering.
Entrance to the Thean Hou Temple is free.
It is open every day from 8:00-20:00.
There are free toilets on the lower level of the temple, as well as a Chinese food cafeteria and several souvenir shops.
How to get there
The temple is south of the centre, about 2km from KL Sentral station, but the walk is not very exciting - it runs along a busy highway and the last bit is up a steep hill.
Public transport doesn't go near the temple, so the easiest way is to take a taxi/Grab. The price to the central area around Pasar Seni will be around 7 myr and to the Bukit Bintang area you will pay around 14 myr.
