National Museum

Flags at the National Museum

The National Museum (Muzium Negara) has its doors in close proximity to the Botanical Garden or the National Mosque. If the exhibition itself doesn't tempt you, at least check out the outdoor exhibits, which are free to enter.

The facade of the building is inspired by traditional Malay architecture combined with modern ones.

Focus on tradition and Malay culture

The museum's exhibitions and collections focus mainly on the cultural history of Malaysia from prehistoric times to the present day.

In the museum, you will discover artworks by Malay artists, Malay traditions and crafts as well as various objects related to any economic activity such as farming, fishing or shipbuilding.

You will also find a collection of coins and banknotes or weapons.

In total, a visit to the museum will take between 40 and 60 minutes.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The Negara Museum is open daily from 9:00-17:00, with the last entry at 16:30.

Admission for foreigners is 5 myr.

Current and official information is available on the museum's website: muziumnegara.gov.my.

How to get there

Directly in front of the museum is the metro station of the green line number 9, which can be used to quickly reach, for example, Pasar Seni bus station (exit for Chinatown or Central Market) or Bukit Bintang district.

Although directly opposite the museum is KL Sentral railway station, don't be fooled. The walk is very complicated and passes through a collection of garages and office buildings and is not marked in any way.
