Federal Territory Mosque

Federal Territory Mosque

The Federal Territory Mosque, known in Malay as Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan, is the largest mosque within the city limits of Kuala Lumpur and is larger even than the National Mosque in the city centre.

The interior can accommodate 17,000 worshippers and is located in the modern government district in the west of the city.

Diverse architecture

Built between 1998 and 2000, the mosque has a total of 22 domes and its architecture is influenced by many different styles.

Different parts of the mosque are inspired by typical Malay style, Egyptian architecture, but especially Ottoman architecture.

However, the building is most influenced by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

Tourist visit - opening hours and entrance fees

The mosque can be visited by all tourists, but only as part of a guided tour.

Admission to the tours is free and they are held from Saturday to Thursday from 10:00-15:30 at irregular intervals of about 15-20 minutes depending on the current number of tourists.

On Fridays, the mosque is open to tourists between 10:00-11:30 and 15:00-16:30.

Of course, it is necessary to observe the dress-code, i.e. never have exposed knees and shoulders.

If you arrive at the mosque wearing shorts or a tank top, you can rent a free robe from the reception before the tour.

How to get there

The mosque is about 5km west of the centre and there is a bus stop directly outside the entrance for the 851 bus line running from Pasar Seni central station. However, the line has a long interval of about 50-60 minutes and the journey takes about 25 minutes.

The fare is around 2,20 myr and you can only pay with a Touch n'Go card, see the Transport section.

We took the bus one trip and used Grab from the mosque to the Thean Hou temple for about 13 myr.
