National Monument

Tugu Negara

The Tugu Negara National Monument commemorates the struggle for freedom during the Japanese occupation during World War II. It is the largest freestanding bronze grouping of statues with a height of over 15 metres.

It is part of a pleasant park that comes more than handy on sultry days.

Apart from the bronze sculpture, the grounds also include a granite obelisk as well as a beautiful arcade with bronze domes and a fountain.

Entrance to the complex is free and the National Monument is open every day from 7am-6pm.

There is no public transport to the monument, but the Grab from the centre will only take around 15 minutes and cost around 8 myr.

Alternatively, you can walk along the wide pavement along Jalan Negara Street leading through the government quarter past the Malaysian Parliament building. This gives way to Merdeka Square.
