Papohaku Beach is the longest and most popular beach on Molokai. It stretches for more than 2 km along the west coast, which is drier, without vegetation and looks very exotic by Hawaiian standards.

Because of its length and the very low number of visitors to Molokai, you are virtually assured of privacy here.

Swimming and beach facilities

Papohaku Beach Park is located in a secluded area, which only enhances the feeling of privacy and swimming in a beautiful natural setting without civilization. However, only about 1 km from the beach is the small village of Kepuhi, where you will find a small convenience store and several apartments as well as a hotel.

The beach itself is without facilities, only in a pleasant grove by the parking lot you will find picnic benches and a public toilet.

  • The surface of the beach - fine golden sand
  • Entrance to the water - gradual and without stones, the sea is relatively shallow about 100 meters from the beach
  • Length of the beach - 2.5 km
  • Width of the beach - 150 metres
  • Sunbed rental - no
  • Toilets and showers - toilets only
  • Catering - no
  • Shops - the nearest shop is about 1 km away in the village of Kepuhi

Accommodation

The village of Kepuhi is one of the few places on Molokai where you will find several apartments, private villas and a hotel together.

However, it is important to take into account that most of the local facilities are only rented for a few weeks or months of the year, so it can be quite difficult to hit your specific dates. Of the accommodation in Kepuhi, we would recommend the following:

How to get there

There's a road leading right up to the beach, at the end of which you'll find a large enough free parking lot that will only have a few cars at most anyway.

From Molokai Airport, head west on Route 460 and turn right before the village of Maunaloa. This road will then take you to the beach, which is about 23 km from the airport.
