Silver Beach
Silver Beach (often referred to as Crystal Beach or Thongtakian Beach) is a small bay between Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach on the east coast of Koh Samui.
In a relatively small space, you'll find a combination of light sand, calmer water and large boulders on the sides - which is why it's one of the most visually beautiful beaches on the island.

Quick overview
- π S wimming: calmer water, suitable for the less experienced
- π S and: lighter, fine
- π¨βπ©βπ§ People: medium - crowded in high season
- π View: smaller enclosed bay
- π Nightlife: none

How Silver Beach looks in reality
Unlike long beaches, you only have a relatively short stretch of sand here - about 300 metres.
This means two things:
- a visually very nice environment
- but limited space
Large rocks on the sides create natural scenery and better conditions for snorkelling.
Swimming and snorkeling
Silver Beach is one of the better swimming spots on the island:
- more gradual entry into the water
- smaller waves than on the open coast
- snorkelling off the rocks
π In good conditions the water is much clearer than on Chaweng.
How to get here
Access is from the main road between Chaweng and Lamai, often through hotel compounds.
π Car / π΅ Scooter
- parking at entrances (restaurants / hotels)
- short walk to the beach (max. 2 minutes)
Most of the parking lots at the resorts allow parking for the general public - you usually pay 80 thb / day for a car and 20 thb / day for a motorbike.
If you plan to drive to multiple beaches during the day, self transportation is the easiest solution:
π Grab / Bolt
- works here without any problems
- waiting time is minimal as the beach is just off the main road
π distance:
- Chaweng Beach: about 35 minutes
- Lamai Beach: approx. 10 minutes
Where to stay nearby
There are several small resorts on the beach, which are also surprisingly cheap for how well-known and popular the beach is.
Personally, I'd recommend these resorts:
Is Silver Beach worth it?
β Yes, if:
- you want a smaller, photogenic beach
- you plan to swim or snorkel
- you're driving by
β More likely not, unless:
- you are looking for a long beach for the whole day
- you want a minimum of people
π‘ Alternative:
Lamai Beach serves for more space, Chaweng Beach for a busier atmosphere.
