Terra Alta
Extensive farming on the island has cleared vast areas of forest. However, these have survived on the steep slopes of the monumental cliffs known as Terr’Alta on the north-eastern coast.
The densely wooded slopes plunge into the ocean from heights of up to 350 metres, and several spots offer breathtaking views of them.
The 10 best places to stay on Pico
Where should you go for the best views?
Miradouro Alto dos Cedros
The most beautiful view of the cliffs can be seen from the end of the short “Alto dos Cedros” walking trail, which starts in the village of Ribeirinha.

Miradouro da Terr’Alta
An easily accessible viewpoint right by the main road, complete with a car park. Personally, however, we found it considerably less impressive than Alto dos Cedros. This is because from here you don’t see the cliffs from the side, but directly from above, so their grandeur isn’t really brought to the fore.
