Pico Island is mainly connected to the rest of the world by air. Regular passenger ferries often only sail to the neighbouring islands of Faial and São Jorge

By air

The only airport Pico PIX is situated on the north coast, 10 km from the largest town, Madalena.

Pico has direct connections to several Azores islands, and there is also a direct flight to Lisbon. All scheduled flights here are operated by the local airline SATA Air Acores.

The airport is equipped to handle aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737.

Flights from Pico go to the following airports:

• Ponta Delgada PDL – 2–5 times a day
• Terceira TER – 1–2 times a day
• Lisabon LIS – 5–6 times a week

A return ticket from Ponta Delgada or Terceira costs on average between 80 eur and 100 eur.

Flights to Europe or the Americas always go via Lisbon, Ponta Delgada or Terceira airports. When travelling to Europe, it’s usually worth looking out for special offers on flights to Ponta Delgada or Terceira, where fares are often around 250 eur with the following airlines:

And from mainland Portugal, you can also fly with Ryanair.

You should then buy a separate ticket with SATA Air Acores to the island of Pico. Flights from Europe to Pico booked as a single reservation are usually more expensive.

By ferry

The island of Pico is connected by regular ferry services for passengers and cars to four of the Azores islands. All services are operated by Atlânticoline. You can find timetables and book tickets online at:atlanticoline.pt.

There are no passenger ferries from Pico to the mainland.

There are two ferry terminals on the island: the larger one in Madalena and a much smaller one in São Roque do Pico.
